5 Kitchen Essentials for Making Homemade Baby Food

I’ve seen so many mamas on the Facebook groups that I’m apart of asking about how to make baby food, different recipes, tools to make baby food, etc. When Phoebe was just starting out on puree foods, I did try my hand at making different recipes. It was really easy and I enjoyed it. I also love knowing exactly what’s going into her food. For a tiny baby, this is important.

Obviously, you control what your baby eats. You can buy the best quality, organic everything. You can go half/half on the organic because let’s face it, organic=$$$$, or you can just get conventional products and that’s okay, too.

The food part is one factor in the baby food making equation. The tools will make or break your baby food chef experience. If you don’t have the right tools, it ain’t gonna be easy. Ever try to puree food without a blender?? Nope nope nope.

Here’s my love list of the Top 5 essential tools for making baby food.

1. Steamer Basket
Pop this on top of a larger pot with boiling water, and place chopped up fruits and veggies on it. Cover for a few minutes and you’ll have perfectly tender produce. It’s super fast and easy, and since you’re only steaming for a minimal amount of time, the produce won’t lose as much nutrition.

2. Nutri Bullet
I like the Nutri Bullet because it’s smaller, which makes it easier to get the puree out. They also make a Baby Bullet which is super cute, but this can be used for mama’s smoothies and baby food making. It’s more practical in my opinion.

3. Silverware
I love this stainless steel silverware. Obviously for the newbie foodies, you want to use the standard rubbery spoons, but for babies that are starting to self feed, I have found that a real fork with real prongs is much easier to stab food with. Plastic forks have wide, dull prongs making it impossible for a toddler to get food. This set has different images you can pick for the handles, too!

4. Little Foodie
I love this cookbook. It’s filled with awesome puree ideas that will help baby develop a refined food palate. What I love most is the meal ideas for toddlers that parents will enjoy too, because really who has time to cook a baby meal and an adult meal. Really.

5. Freezer Storage Blocks
Storing all the baby food you make is so much easier when you can put them in perfectly portioned containers. I use these for storing Phoebe’s left overs and for putting her snacks in while we’re running errands. Phoebe thinks they are fun for stacking, too.

I love anything that will make mom life easier. Stay connected! I’ll soon be sharing my favorite baby food puree recipes!
